This talk will introduce advanced manufacturing research at Liverpool John Moores University, focusing on precision processes and sustainable production. It will highlight research into refurbishing polycrystalline diamond (PCD) cutting tools using water-jet-guided laser processing, then evaluating their performance in turning Ti-6Al-4V. Refurbishment could extend tool life, reduce replacement costs and avoid unnecessary material waste. A brief techno-economic analysis compares the estimated refurbishment cost with the cost of a new tool, helping assess the approach’s potential value to industry. The talk will also explore post-processing of additively manufactured materials and how finishing processes can improve surface quality and component performance.”
